"Business Development in Challenging Times
- a Growth Area in a Contracting Industry"
19th, 20th & 21st September 2011
The 10th anniversary International Pharmaceutical Licensing Symposium (IPLS) took place in the beautiful city of Barcelona between 19th-21st September 2011. Held at the Hilton Diagonal Mar, the event attracted over 270 delegates representing over 169 different companies, as well as a record number of sponsors. The opening address was given by Jordi Ramentol, President, Farmaindustria Spain, and focused on the Spanish perspective of the future of the pharmaceutical industry. This was the first of 30 presentations given during a busy and action packed 3 days.

The Spanish sun definitely had his hat on throughout the 3 day event and this meant that lunch and the networking drink receptions could take place on the hotel terrace offering views all across the city and its wonderful architecture.

The gala dinner was held at the Museu Marítim de Barcelona, a former shipyard (or Drassanes) just off the Las Ramblas that produced a stunning backdrop for the conference dinner. We were honoured to welcome Sonia Recasens, Second Deputy to the Mayor of Barcelona, and Montserrat Vendrell, CEO, Biocat, to join us at dinner and address the delegates. There was also a short speech from Sharon Finch, a past Chairman and founder member of the EPLC, reviewing the past ten IPLS meetings commenting on the current role and success of all the national PLG groups.

The EPLC would like to place on record their thanks to all the speakers and sponsors who helped contribute to the success of the meeting, as well as the PLG Spain for hosting the wonderful event. Presentations that have been made available for distribution to delegates are available for download HERE and some extra photos from the meeting are available to view below.

It was also confirmed at the EPLC meeting held in Barcelona that Thomas Högn would step up from Vice Chairman to succeed Ivan Csendes as Chairman following the completion of Ivan’s 2 year term. Enric Turmo, PLG Spain, was voted to join Jürgen Langhärig as Joint Vice Chairman. A vote of thanks was made to Ivan for his hard work over the last 2 years.
The next European PLG Meeting will take place in September 2012, with the XI IPLS meeting being held in the UK in September 2013. Please note these dates in your diary and further details will be available on the PLG Europe and local group websites soon.
